I had one of my darling brides in the office the other day and we reviewed her video for a moment. She saw some footage of a friend walking in, while holding a gift. She asked me if I had heard about THAT gift. Somewhat excited I said that I had not. She gestured with her hands explaining how large the box was and told me this story with a slightly embarrassed grin … I wasn’t sure what was coming. But I wanted to share it with you all …
Her story my words … not an exact quote, I know I can’t do it as well as her.
…
“We returned home from the honeymoon and began opening gifts. We got to this gift and unwrapped the fairly large box to reveal beneath the shiny gold wrapping that it was a leaf blower. I thought to myself, “Self, I don’t need a leaf blower, we already have one”. I thought it was a creative gift but returned it to Home Depot where I received the standard price of $40 or so dollars. Soon I run into our friends and they asked about the gift and I very sheepishly explained that we already had a leaf blower and that I returned it because we didn’t need it. There faces of shock and laughter appeared and I knew that I had done something wrong when they told me that I should have opened the box because inside were two Camelbak hiking packs. Some what laughing I quickly returned to the store and explained it to the clerk. We looked through all the leaf blower boxes and could not find my box. They said no one has returned it so someone must have gone to Home Depot for a leaf blower and returned home to find they have new Camelbaks. Moral of the story is open EVERY gift!”
Her and I had a great laugh and felt somewhat sad about them losing two great packs. Don’t let the box fool you friends … it’s what’s on the inside that counts.
